What are the right podcast guest questions to include on your one-sheet?
If you’re wondering what a one sheet is, it’s a PDF you send out to hosts along with your pitch. It can also be referred to as your podcast information sheet or media kit.
The purpose of your one sheet is to demonstrate to the host the value you will bring to the listeners, why you’d make an interesting guest and how you’re different from others in your field.
What to include
On your one-sheet you’ll want to include your biography of approximately 200 words, a clear headshot, three to five topics that you can talk confidently about for up to an hour and then approximately five questions you can answer.
No two hosts are the same. We’ve spoken to hosts who prefer a free flowing conversation that sounds as natural as possible, others who will stick with the questions on the sheet, and some who will use the questions as a guide to create their own.
Either way providing questions will demonstrate your expertise, provide a good framework for hosts to start from and having topics and questions that you feel confident to answer can help with nerves.
Topics and Questions
If you’re an author or have a course you may find that these provide you with a natural framework of topics and questions.
On your sheet there is no need to include questions focused on you and your journey such as, How I became a Coach because the host will ask those questions anyway. (However, you’ll want to be prepared to talk about your origin story and how you got started in your industry.)
Align your podcast guest questions with your goals for carrying out interviews.
For example, one of our clients, a psychologist and author, was a guest on podcasts to raise awareness of her new book on stress and her private practice. The questions on her sheet were related to the topics in her book and demonstrated her expertise in the area of stress:
- Is the fast track of technology helping or hurting our stress levels?
- Why is loneliness hazardous for our health?
- Are we sleep deprived or just unrested?
- What do you see as the major causes of stress today?
- How can mindfulness offer relief from stress?
