A strong one sheet will help you book more podcasts. This week on The Best Guest we’re talking about:
- How to create a one sheet that stands out
- Why a strong one sheet is helpful to a podcast host
- Setting up a media kit
Key Takeaways
- Your one sheet will give hosts a picture of what an interview with you could sound like
- Your one sheet is the place to show what’s unique about you, how you’re different from others in your niche
- A one sheet should not be selly. It should not be all about your product or service
- Your one sheet should include your biography (written in third person), suggested topics and questions, your head shot, your contact details
- It’s a nice touch to match the fonts and colours of your one sheet to your branding. It helps hosts make that connection when they look you up and know they have the right person
- A good one sheet builds trust with a host and creates the right impression of you
- To make sure you stand out from the crowd question, what makes you you, what sets you on fire? What have you helped your clients achieve? Why do they come to you? How is your approach different from others in your industry?
- Create a media kit folder. You could do this on Google Drive. Add everything a host is likely to ask for such as your headshot, different length biographies, and one sheet. If you’re an author add your book blurb and different renderings of your book cover

Hello and welcome. I'm your host, Victoria Bennion and the founder of the Victoria Bennion podcast, booking agency, and you are listening to the best guest, the podcast for business owners, creatives and entrepreneurs who want to harness the power of podcasts to grow their platforms and increase their visibility. We're here to support you on your journey, bringing you actionable tips with each episode. Now let's begin. Hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Best Guest, where we are talking about how to get more bookings with a one sheet that Wows one Sheets are something that we've talked about before on the show, but I really think it needs to be covered again. So with my host's hat on, I've received honestly some terrible pictures lately and some one sheets that really do with sharpening up. It may be that the person behind the one sheet would make an excellent guest, but if your sheets wishy-washy or really selly, it can be hard to tell.
(:And as a host on the receiving end of it, it can be really hard to picture like what you could talk to that guest about what an episode with them could sound like. This is something that we work with our clients on right from the beginning. Putting together a one sheet that wows a really strong one sheet, you have to put yourself in the shoes of the, the podcast host who is often a business owner with very little time. So you want to do everything in your power so that they can say yes, so that you make their life easier. You make it easier for them to say yes, and you can do that with your one sheet, what you include on it, so that they can really visualize what it would sound like to have you on their show. So we've just dived into talking about why you need a one sheet, but what is a one sheet?
(:If you're a speaker, it's a little bit like a speaker sheet. The way we put it together is as an interactive P D F. It has about a 200 word biography written in the third person. It has some suggested topics that you could talk about and suggested questions. It also has your headshot on it and it has your contact details. So it sounds simple enough, right? But you need to make sure that, particularly in your suggested topics and questions that you stand out, that you are different from others in your niche. If a host's receiving lots of pictures, lots of one sheets from maybe you are a coach, other coaches, why are you different? Why would they work with you rather than Fred up the road? This is something that you really need to pull out. If this is something that you're struggling with, you're not sure, it's quite a good idea to spend a little bit of time brainstorming.
(:Ask yourself questions like, what makes you you? What makes you unique? What do you, what do you like? I've got a client who really likes cats. That's really important to her and it's part of her personal brand. Think about what sets you on fire. What really lights you up? What have you helped your clients achieve? What results do they see when they work with you? Why do they come to you rather than other people who do similar things to you? Is your approach slightly different from others in your industry? Don't be thinking about blending in. You really need to stand out, be strong. Yes, you may put off some people, but that's a good thing. You want to be you. There's nothing great about being bland, so own it. And that's really going to help your one sheet stand up when it comes to what your one sheet looks like.
(:We like to match the color and the fonts to our clients' branding. Again, it really helps that tie in when a host gets your one sheet and then they look you up. If your one sheet then ties in with your website and your social media helps build that trust, creates a really good impression. It helps a host to know that they're in the right place, they've got the right person before all the yeses start pouring in. I also think it's quite a good idea if you put together a media kit folder. Again, this is something that we do for our clients, so we would save the one sheet inside, but also we would separately add different length biographies and possibly several headshot options if our clients have them. If they're authors, we include book blurbs and different renderings of the covers. It really makes it, it makes it easier for a host if everything is one in one place.
(:It makes it easier for you too if when they ask for these things, you can just send them a link to the folder where everything is, and already you've got this fantastic one sheet and you've got the headshot, you've got the biographies, and you already look like you're going to be a fantastic guest. We have a free camera template for oh one sheet that I can let you have. I'll put a link to it in the show notes so that you can go away and create a really strong sheet for yourself. You can send out with your pictures and really increase your chances of a yes. One more thing before I go. It's really, I mentioned it at the beginning, but about being selly or salesy. It's really important. I've seen some one sheets lately where the, the sole focus is talking about the product that's on offer.
(:Like, like it's some kind of brochure, you know, the product or service of the person rather than about the person, about the talking points about what you could talk about on an episode. So you really don't want to do that. I know you may be thinking, but I'm going on podcasts because I want to, you know, want to get more leads and yes, absolutely, of course you do. But there's a way to go about it and it is not to be salesy in your one sheet. Okay? This is about you. This is about what you can talk about, what you can bring to the audience, okay? I can't wait to see what you create.
